NORFOLK SOUTHERN

What year did Norfolk Southern introduce the horsehead logo?

The thoroughbred logo has been in place since 1982, shortly after the formation of NS Corporation.

I don’t think he means the rearing horse motif, but the inclusion of the sillouette of the horse’s head within the stripes on the NS logo itself, which is certainly much more recent.

I want to get an N Scale Locomotive in the NS livery that pre-dates 1998

Not so fast…

The rearing horse on the locomotives noses has been around since the first painted NS locomotive.

What locomotive are you buying?

Many of the older locomotives has the newer NS “nag head” logo-that’s the horse head on the side by the NS…

Not a definitive answer, but I just went through my photos and everything prior to 1998 is the full horse silhouette. The horseyHEAD appears to be 2005 or later…
