Even though there’s another thread on this subject, that sure is a SWEET looking loco and paint scheme!
OMG! That looks terrible!
That would look far better in Southern’s “tuxedo” scheme.[tup]
Lol… Larry, I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one, it looks fine to me. Reminds me a little of the paint scheme on my Southern E6 though.
I keep wondering, is this an excellent Photoshop job or the real thing? [;)]

After looking at it for a couple moments, I’m thinking it may be photoshopped. Well done, yes, but not real. I could be wrong, but the numbers and NS logo on the side of the unit look a little off, and not that clear. Especially given how clear the front of the loco (pilot, etc) look, the paint looks too…fuzzy.
My bet is fake, but it will certainly be exciting to see the real thing when it is released!
…and for some reason I didn’t even think of this at first: the GE in the photo is an earlier generation ES44 with the nose headlight. Everything NS has ordered from GE has had the cab headlight, and any new GE should have the nose door on the opposite side.
So definitely photoshopped, but well done ![]()

Thank goodness!
Actually I had the same idea but for Conrail Back in the late 90s before they went under
I got a boxcar for each of Conrail’s lineage and also an engine
Link is on my ME&O site
I think it’s a very good Photoshop job because of the headlight placement. NS has theirs up between the number boards and I believe KCS and UP maybe have them on the nose?
Hey, good job anyway! Larry, you may get the tuxedo scheme after all! [:D]

I’m sorry. I think the words heritage and Norfolk Southern have no business being thin the same time-zone let alone same sentence with each other. This is a railroad that took two operating steam locomotives out of service and purposely destroyed critical parts so they could not be restored to operating condition again. Lost all respect for them and I sold all my stock in the company after that little manuver.
I think it looks OK, are there any other railroads that plan to “heritage” their locomotives?
Do you know the rational behind that action ?
Didn’t all the railroads do that at one time? VIA Rail destroyed all their Turbo trains but what were they suppose to do with something that they weren’t using.
Actually, NS is the only railway that has ordered GEVOs with headlights on the cab. Every other railroad has ordered both DC and AC versions with nose headlight only. The SD70ACe/M-2 series have had cab-headlights on several other railways as well, but not the GEs.
And as I said before, enough things have been changed on the new GEVOs such that any new order loco would have a lot of discrepancies from the one shown above.
A friend sent me this today

Mostly becasuse there was some sort of accident and law suites such that the cost of insurance went way up. Also related was the executive manager James A. Bistline who had been a strong supporter of the program had retired in 1987, so he wasn’t around to support it to the board of directors. Then the general cost of maintaining the 611 and 1218 were climbing. So I can understand scaling back the program or gettting the locomotives into a place that deals with steamers like Steam Town, but to have the boiler tubes ripped out and shredded. I just never understood.
Delighted to see that they’ll be using the lightning stripe scheme for the NYC locomotive. I would have been VERY disappointed seeing the cigar band. [xx(]

I think that’s just someone’s hopes. The Trains release said that 10 would be EMD and 8 GE and the poster is all GE. I wouldn’t even be sure they’ve finalized the various paint schemes yet.

John, I would not be terribly surprised to see some changes in the final versions either. Just as I’m not sure where this poster came from.
