Norfolk & Western

Hello All,

Have a question about consists; Did the Norfolk and Western FM Train Masters ever pull passenger cars or were they strictly used for freight service and coal drags?

Thanks

Bernard

Don’t know the answer, but you may want to also post this over on the “Trains” forum and perhaps get some guys in the know on all things prototypical.

From what I can tell from David Sweetland’s book, not likely. The Wabash and Virginian Train Masters that Norfolk and Western inherited seem always to have been used for freight and later switching. However, he prints one picture with the caption, “Although never equipped for passenger service, the sole surviving Virginian Train Master had the honor of pulling a special passenger excursion on July 4, 1976.” So, as they say, there’s a prototype for everything!
