Sorry to say this but the odds are against those people of keeping that hub from being built. Better to take the money now than to try to fight it.

Do you see these type of headlines in China?

Well, the NIMBY’s did kill a intermodal terminal in Harborcreek, NWPA, by holding demonstrations, Facebook posts, etc… They wanted it, and the jobs and money it would bring, but built elsewhere, in Erie. Same people were the ones complaining that GE was getting rid of locomotive production in the nearby locale of Lawrence Park. They were arguing that the increased truck traffic would be dangerous, and, that the Erie rail yard, shared by 3 railroads, was a “better location” for a purely CSX terminal. CSX argued that the other 2 railroads, NS & B&P(G&W), would not allow it to be built. The NIMBY’s got a government official involved, who blocked the plan to build in Harborcreek, and recommend the terminal be built instead in the Erie rail yard. NS indeed did not agree to this, so the terminal was moved.
What is interesting, to me, is that these NIMBY’s, who were the sole ones responsible for this deal being killed, are also the same ones complaining all the “good jobs” have left the area.
Hopefully, the NC NIMBY’s do not have the same fortune, as it will be to their detriment if they succeed.

Mr. Norton,
This is certainly NOT China (yet), and frankly I could care less what the " headlines " might be over there.
I agree with Mr. Sestito, because as was stated in the article, CSX has already studied the feasibility of other sites, and they may go forward building the terminal with out those 40 acres
. Even though I can sympathize with the Edwards family, I hope they like watching and hearing trains.

I had a secure job w/ a local University already @ retirement time in service before NS announced the decision to build their McCalla hub. When it was announced, I attended all of the organizational meetings before I had to retire from the University on disability because of knee & hip issues. Had that not happened, I was ready to apply for a job @ the hub as the word was jobs averaged $50,000 a year & sure beat pushing a broom & mop; & would have been more than happy to commute 45 minutes each way.
