sometime ago I purchased a complete deluxe set of passenger cars from walthers, the 1960 Broadway Limited.
these cars come with people and more importantly for me the car names or numbers are factory printed on the sides.
walthers advert stated these cars also came with lighting and some cars had a decoder installed to.
as I was in the middle of building a new layout at the time I quickly tested the cars and then put them away, noting several cars did not light up when on a powered track.
I assumed these unlit cars were the ones with a decoder and required programming
Recently I unpacked and tested the cars again to find out why they were not lit and imagine my surprise when one of the cars had no lighting unit installed.
I contacted walthers and they claim that there was no room to fit a lighting unit in that type of sleeper …
when I mentioned the car was the same price as the ones with lights etc, therefore I felt they owe me a lighting unit, they remained silent.
if you google the car 920-9252 only train world states the car is not lit, five or six other places state the car is lit.
Thought I’d see what Walthers said in their item description. Curiously, this number does not turn up an item at Walthers. Even when including discontinued items.
It looks like they came out in 2012 if I read Internet posts correctly. Tough luck for the OP. On one hand it would have been nice customer service if Walthers could have come up with some consideration for him, on the other hand 5 years is a long time to register a complaint about a product that is no longer in production.
Sure I can use the car but the point I am trying to make is I paid a $105 for a car with no lights which came with another lit car in the same set which was $99. It just does not add up
