NS 9971 photo

This past weekend I was standing on the old, but refurbished, passenger station platform when Norfolk Southern’s 9971 rumbled through. This is a flag stop station that sits right beside the track and has some pretty good railfanning. Pretty good because not that many trains come through per day, nothing like The Folkston Funnel in extreme southeast Georgia just above the Florida line.

Our modular club had set up an N scale layout and a smallish HO switching setup in the station, in conjuction with the towns festival, which was rained out later in the day. Club members ran the layouts until a train came through then there was a quick exodus to the outside platform. The photo above was taken from that platform.

Jarrell,

Thanks for the pic. Even though I model the NYC in the 40s, I do like the look of “The Pony”. Must be the white on black paint scheme and “lightning stripes”. [^]

Tom

Thanks Tom, I know what you mean about paint schemes. That’s been one of the toughest things for me to overcome (which I’ve yet to do!) I like NS, Southern, BNSF and many others. What’s worse is I like diesels as well as steamers, so it’s difficult for me to model a certain era or locale.

Heck, I like’m all! [:D]
