NS had a derailment this afternoon and a head on collision in Goshen IN it derailed about 12 cars this is in the same area that they had an accident last year back in sept or oct both are unrelated though the engineer of one the locomotive was taken to the hospital don’t their status though the media said the cause was unknown but rumor has it that one of the engineers failed to obey the stop signal I couldn’t get close enough to get any pics

Heres some info from a couple of forums that I frequent and this incident…

There has been a lot of chatter on some of the Michigan boards about this wreck today - we’re all hoping for re-routes via Kalamazoo, Jackson and Detroit!! Here’s some copy/pasted information from http://www.railroadfan.com/ and http://www.michiganrailroads.com/:

4:56 pm
One crew member injured, non seriuos.
It looks like both mains are blocked.
Wonder about reroutes (through Michigan), crews I think would be slim on the Michigan line as they had an extra 39J and a 38J plus several extras around Jackson, and the usual road trains.

Word has it that a train ran a signal, clipped somewhere into the side of a train in front of then… engines rolled down and are almost into the river, but not quite.

Just some AMTK rambalings I have copied

Also AMTK Amtrak 29-30-48-49 all to detour west of Toledo.
Amtrak 29-30-48-49 all to operate via CSX ex-B&O
main line to bypass derailment site. Trains will
serve Toledo directly; not sure whether using
ex-B&O via Deshler or ex-C&O via Fostoria.
Amtrak might operate via the St Joe transfer if
they can get through Garrett. Lots of dead trains
around Willard Fostoria and Garrett today.

Detroit and Kalamazoo would miss the fewest stops, which would also be a consideration. But the availability of pilot crews also has to be a factor.

Latest.
30 and 48 are to detour at Pine Jct. to CSX, the former B&O. They are to have CSX pilots. Reports are that the detour (possibly running 30 and 48 as a single train) will return to the former NYC

As long as no one was injured, maimed or worse yet lost their life ,then taking pictures is okay but if any of these three took place, then I wouldn’t bother w/pics. Leave that to the news media.

I was not sure what a pilot crew is, so I typed in “pilot crew” in search box at bottom of this page. We had a great thread on the subject.
