We immediately need forward facing as well as inward facing video cameras on all tugboats. Plus, we need a system that automatically stops boats when they diverge from proper river channels. Some kind of PTC for boats.
Claes, Boats are not stationary when you stop them, especially on a river. They are stationary in relation to the water they are in but if the river is flowing at 5 mph the boat will continue down stream at that speed and hit any fixed object (the bridge) in its path.
consider something the weight of a train but not guided by rails resting on a moving body of water and you can see what tug crews deal with every day.
Some people have no sense of humor. Good one Claes. Maybe Shumer and Blumenthal should get involved. Will there be cameras involved???
I agree claes.but we can’t stop there.giant air bags in the bow would help immensely, along with alcohol sensors in the wheel house.
