NS Train 413

I heard an NS train on the Chicago - Fort Wayne line…413 which either originated at Van Loon (interchange point with EJE) or picked up there.

I have never heard of this train.

Any ideas of what it is?

Thanks,

ed

Are all NS 400 series trains unit trains ?

Interesting. I thought NS dropped most/all of the 4XX series trains last year…

Norfolk Southern used the 400 series for general merchandise trains until moving them into the 300s on April 1, 2004. At that time NS started using the 400 series for unit trains, mostly coal and grain trains. That was a year ago and things may have changed again.

That would make sense for 413. It originated at Van Loon, Indiana, off the EJE. Generally the trains coming off the J are empty hopper trains back to West Virginia for more natural resources.

Those trains are usually in the 800 or 600 series.

The 413 just threw me for a loop and I was much too content to go watch it.
