Nscale Scenic Ridge Modification

Hey everyone,

I’ve decided to build the scenic ridge kit to get some more layout building experience and allow me to scratch my model railroad itch while planning my major pike.

I’d like to have more then just a roundy-round, so i’ve redesigned things to allow for more operations - 1 spur for the factory, 1 spur for a coal/oil dealer, a passing siding/station stop in the town, 1 spur for a team track, and 2 interchange tracks (RDG & PRR). Also, off of the base of the layout will be 2 temporary staging yards, for north and south, which will be removed when not operating the layout. I’d like not to expand the layout past the 3x6 (not including staging) as I have a perfect space for it. Also, the track work is Atlas code 55 with 11in min radius - I’d like to run large steam once I can afford it.

On the diagram I’ve marked the capacitys of the spurs and I’ve also included the orginal track plan for atlas snap track for compairson.

Let me know what you guys think. I realize that this is more of a stop-gap for me, and that I’ll probably e-bay it when I’m done, but I want to enjoy building and then running it.

I think it looks fine, although you have no way to turn trains. If you join the two lower lobes of the inner curves, you can change direction…means short control, but…

Also, if you end up with the tunnels and mountain like the Atlas version, that is a lot of accessibility and visibility to consider. It doesn’t look like you will do that as you have drawn it.

selector,

I’m going to build the layout with the same scenery (tunnels) as shown on the pictures. I was thinking of not including an reversing loops, making it a straight point-to-point layout with a continous run loop.
