NY "High Speed Test Track"

I think this was commented on, but I can’t find the thread. I believe “PDNJr” mentioned it would utilize the old West Shore Right-Of-Way, Churchville-Byron, by replacing/re-building the old West Shore segment, and adding new ROW connections. I wonder why. Why not rebuild one of the two dismantled New York Central Main Tracks, instead of going into the ‘puckerbrush’ and building new ROW? After the ‘tests’ are done, the replaced track could be used for regular service, even if only a nice, long siding. Guess that happens when you put a ‘girlie’ in a man’s job! Not “PC”, but dat’s de troot! Ain’t politics lovely?

According to the NY DOT proposal the are using the old NYC route from just west of Churchville (Chlli) CP 382 to just past CP 393 (short of south Byron not Byron (WS) 11.1 Miles. That is not on the old WS route.

Hi, Hays -

I was ‘faked out’ into thinking and posting that it looked like the old West Shore line would be used by taking the Trains NewsWire item - as summarized by the Original Poster - a little too literally. [:I] I’m not sure whether that was taken word-for-word from the press release, or whether something was lost in the translation/ recommunication. Take a look at that for yourself, if you’re curious. I’m also not sure what it says about those involved - including me - but I’m beyond that now. [sigh]

Anyway, here’s the link to that thread, and the page where I got straightened out with the help of Don Oltmann, and was able to figure out that the project appears to do essentially what you suggest above, along with a link to the grant proposal itself.
