NYC GP7&F7B

Hi, I´m Christian from Germany,

can me anyone give the classifications of NYC GP7 5795& F7B 2423?

Also I search some fotos of heavyweight passenger cars with round roof but on the ends curved of the 1940`(these cars exists, I saw a photo but only on the edge was the car)!

Thank you very munch!

According to the book, “New York Central System Diesel Locomotives” by William D Edson, he has listed the following about your engines.

GP 7 5795 was delivered as a DRSP-4 or a passenger unit with a steam generator and then at some point the steam generator was removed, (No reference as to went the change was made) and it became a DRSP-4n. The New York Central received the unit in June 1953. The 5795 did have its number changed in the 1966 to 5922, but it was changed back to the 5795 prior to the PC merger and keep it until Conrail.

F7B 2423 was delivered as DFB-2d in July 1949 and was latered renumbered in 1966 as: 3423 prior to the Penn Central merger and stayed there until it was retired before Conrail.

In regards to the Passenger cars, what kind of round roof; like a monitor (or turtlebacks), or streamlined roofs, more info is needed before we can narrow down the search.

Hope this info is useful.
