OK here’s the roster:

4 SD40T-2’s
2 SD40 high hoods
1 GP18
1 GP20
Some leased LLPX SD38’s

I’ll get a pic of an NYS&W engine later and I’ll get the numbers while I’m at it[:)]

Thank You.
Do You know when 8-40B and SD70M has been retired or has been sold, please?

Most of the 8-40B’s were returned to CSX in 1999 or 2000 and few (2 or 4) were sold to the P&W a few months ago. The 70M’s were leased to the Indiana & Ohio in 1999 or 2000.

Here’s a NYS&W SD40T-2 shot

The GP18 is painted in the same scheme. The SD40 high hood’s are black and the SD38’s are in LLPX paint

Wrong Mark. None of the B40-8’s went back to CSX. Three of them went to the P&W where they will be used in service. The roster of SD45s that they used to have were pretty much all scrapped. Right now the NYSW is rostering a lot of different units. Heres what i can name off of the top of my head.

3 SD70Ms: All in Yellow Jacket Paint
4 SD40-2T’s: 2 in Yellow Jacket 2 in tattered SP livery
4 or 5 LLPX SD38’s: In various paint schemes (leased)
2 SD40 High Noses: (owned) In black livery (former NW) (others on territory but are parts doners)
1 GP38: Yellow Jacket Paint
1 GP40: Yellow Jacket Paint
3 GP20: Yellow Jacket Paint
3 GP18: Yellow Jacket Paint (one is OOS)

Thats all i can think of right now.

I forgot to mention that they used to own two E9’s and a 2-8-2 but the E units are for sale and the steamer got sold to the NYS&WTS in 1999

Seems to me that there were about 20 B40-8s in NYSW black and yellow that were financed by CSX and were assigned to the D&H. This was during the time that NYSW, CP and some other railroads were looking to purchase the D&H. When CP got the D&H, the B40-8s were returned to CSX and repainted into their owners colors. Susie-Q also owned four B40-8s built in the late '80s. Until now, I didn’t know some of them were sold to the P&W. Must have had to do with being the only GEs on an EMD dominated roster.
By the way- why did the NYSW purchase some GP20s?

Wow![:)]Didn’t know the Suzie Q had tunnel motors. The one in Yellow Jacket paint looks really good![:D]

Cris – you have most of the details right about the NYSW B40-8s.

They got the GP20s when they owned the Toledo Peoria & Western. They painted several in their paint scheme for the TP&W as well. These are ex-ATSF.

I never thought I’d see the day that the Susie-Q has a Tunnel Motor!!! [:o]

The B40-8’s came up on their 15 year lease and basically GE asked who wanted them and the P&W bought them. They were stored in Binghamton for awhile and I believe Utica for awhile until they went east. If the Conrail takeover hadn’t occurred they wouldn’t have had to send them back upon the end of their lease as the Susie-Q would still be doing what they should be doing…hauling stack trains!

[;)] Thanks to all You for these very interesting informations. They are very helpful for me. I think that I don’t make a great mistake if I’ll use 8-40B and SD70M together on my 2000-2001era layout, ok?

Sounds good to me![:)]

A B40-8 and a SD70M? Thats nothing i once saw a NYSW stack train (had lots of locomotive problems) with a GP18 leading, then a mix of B40-8’s and SD45’s! When i get home ill look in my photo album to see what units were on that train. Boy what a chase that one was!

Thanks for reply.
