In a small tribute to the Civil War (150th anaversary of the start is this April 12th) I was going to build an HO version of the Soldiers Monument in Dayton Ohio since Dayton is the anchor city on my train layout.
The prototype is 86 ft high with a 11’6" statue of Pvt. George Washington Fair. Three of his brothers were killed in the war, with he and four other brothers surviving as well as 5 sisters. The sisters who as near as I can tell did not enlist in the service. He was in the Ohio 93d and is modeled standing at parade rest with a rifle. I may shorten the monument a bit from the prototype but what would make task much easier would be to use an O scale Civil War Soldier at parade rest with a rifle. If anybody knows off hand of such a figure It would save me much work in my efforts. Thanks for any leads you can give me. I just need a figure if possible as the rest of the monument should be easy to model.
You’re going to need a figure 2 7/8" (73mm) tall. (Military figures are often described by figure height in millimeters rather than scale.) You might want to look for figures in 1/24 or 1/25 scale. You might be able to use a 1/32 scale figure.
Scene A rama by Woodland scenics has a pack of 5 Civil war figures in O scale. I got mine at AC Moore with my 40% off coupon. This is their line that is intended for school projects. Well detailed & true to scale. jerry
A common scale for plastic toy soldiers is 54mm; somewhat smaller than O scale, but if you’re planning to sale it down a little anyway, these might work.
