Off-Topic...Don Knotts..a.k.a. Deputy Barney Fife passes away...

The world has lost another great comedienne…Don Knotts, who was known as Deputy Barney Fife on ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ and Mr. Furley on ‘Threes Company’ has passed away from respiratory and pulmonary complications at the age of 81…He will be missed. http://articles.news.aol.com/tv/article.adp?id=20060225173309990001&ncid=NWS00010000000001

cough cough http://www.thefreedictionary.com/comedienne

I read the AOL News article before coming to the trains forum. It certainly is sad. Barney is one of the earliest TV characters I remember watching as a child. (Another one is The McCoys or was it The Real McCoys?") He was a truly talented actor. I am saddened by his passing. He will be missed.

I enjoyed watch Barney as a Kid on The Andy Griffiths Show. Watched him every morning.

We have lost one of our funniest comedians. Still watch him in Andy Griffith reruns on TVLand.

While I was reading the AOL newslink on Don Knots, also noticed we lost another fine actor yester-
day: Darren McGavin. I remember him from a lot of Disney Presents movies, and as Candace
Bergan’s dad on Murphy Brown

Wow, didn’t realise he was still going even.
RIP

I also heard Darren McGavin died yesterday as well. They always seem to come in groups of three, I wonder who will be next?

Darren McGavin also played Ralph’s Dad in The Christmas Story.

Don Knotts was a fellow railfan, donating quite a bit of funds to the California State Railroad Museum.

That’s interesting…I never knew that…I learn something new every day…Johnny Cash was another person fond of railroads…

I guess Dennis Weaver is number three.

Darren McGavin was on TV dating back to the fifties, where he played Mike Hammer and also on Riverboat, I think it was.

Dennis Weaver was in Gunsmoke as Chester Good, McCloud as the cop from out west on loan to the NYPD, and in the original Steven Spielberg TV movie, where he was stalked by the phantom truck, Spielberg’s first directing effort.

Don’t forget “Gentle Ben”

Yep they always go in three’s

Gavin McCloud
Dennis Weaver
Donn Knotts

All in the space of a weekend, eerrie huh?

We’ve lost four really good actors this month. Started with Al Lewis in the first part of February. Let’s hope
that Andy Griffith isn’t the next one to go.
