You gotta see this!!

There is a Canadian comedy show on the Comedy Network called Just for Laughs. This is its French Canadian counterpart, called Just for Laughs (Gags), I believe, and comprises short candid camera practical jokes such as this one. Many are very clever, and some are so marginal in terms of possibly embarrassing their “victims” that one has to watch between one’s fingers. As you might expect, on the iffy ones where they really push the envelope, some victims get physically violent in retaliation. Sometimes, that’s the cue to laugh…I guess.

Now THAT was funny! I’ve noticed that most of my Canadian friends have a sharp, very well developed sense of humor, and if anyone doubts that here in the States, I suggest that you run, do not walk, to view a Canadian film called MEN WITH BROOMS which is a warm, affectionate and hilariously funny movie about the sport of “Curling.” And if you are not standing, laughing and cheering with tears running down your face by the end of the film, you simply need your emotions checked by a professional, at least IMO.

Good neighbors to the North of us? They’re the BEST as far as I’m concerned! [bow]

Its actually called “Just for Laughs Gags.” “Just for Laughs” (without “Gags”) is different show with standup comics from Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival galas.

Just for Laughs Gags” is not just on the Comedy Network (the Canadian version of Comedy Central). It is a sindicated show on many networks worldwide. There is no dialogue, so it doesn’t need to be translated/dubbed. FYI, the French-Canadian title of the show is “Les gags – Juste pour rire.” There is a French (from France) spin-off/copy, “Les tomates” (“The Tomatoes”), that does similar pranks.

There was a short-lived version of this on ABC (in the US) this passed summer, with an idiotic host who introduced each segment (à la “America’s Funniest Videos”). They showed the exact same pranks but blurred out any product names or phone numbers.

I also remember a very irreverent Canadian comedy show called “The Kids in the Hall” that ran for several years on our Comedy Channel here in the USA. Some of it was WAY over the top, but a lot of it was genuintely funny, in a Monty Pythonesque kind of way. I got a huge kick out of it.
