OFF TOPIC: This is so Funny. TSA video counts 'sippy cup' allegation

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Transportation Security Administration is denying allegations that an airport screener seized a toddler’s sippy cup and mistreated his mother, taking the unusual step of posting security camera footage on its Web site.

The TSA said in a statement that the incident and the videotape demonstrate that its “officers display professionalism and concern for all passengers.”

At issue is whether Monica Emmerson, a former Secret Service officer, was improperly detained June 11 after she spilled water out of her child’s sippy cup at Washington’s Reagan National Airport.

TSA has banned most fluids at airport security checkpoints for nearly a year because of concern about possible liquid explosives.

“I was distraught. I opened my son’s sippy cup. I twisted off the top. I wanted to drink the water. It spilled out,” Emmerson said Saturday.

Emmerson said an officer threatened to arrest her after the water spilled, telling her she was “endangering the public.” She said there was no place to dump the water near the security area, and that she was worried when her son started wandering away from her.

The story quickly spread on the Internet this week after blogger Bill Adler, a Washington author, saw a note Emmerson wrote on a Web site for city parents. Adler interviewed Emmerson and relayed her account.

He wrote that a TSA screener seized her 19-month-old’s cup after asking if there was water in it, causing Emmerson’s son to cry. Emmerson was told she would have to leave the security checkpoint and dump out the water if she wanted to keep the cup.

Emmerson said she accidentally spilled the water because she was nervous and traveling alone with a toddler.

TSA, however, said Emmerson dumped, not spilled, the water on the floor.

A TSA report said Emmerson told an o

Watched the vid, read the report. Me leanums twards TSA.

First I would like to say that the woman seems to pour the contents out on purpose.

Having said that last year and this year I have flown with my son who is now 20 months old and the TSA people at the counter have no clue what the rules are and change them up as often as they open there mouths. You see my wife called TSA months before, weeks before, and days before we flew to find out exactly what we could or could not bring on the flight. This first flight was shortly after the no food or drink policy. On the phones the TSA said that drink, specifiaclly milk, formula or water in closed bottles to make formula were OK! Well much to our suprise when we got to the TSA counter (i.e. facist dictator wannabes) they said absolutely no water in any type of container, no powedered formula, etc. Knowing how thorough my wife is when getting directions, I asked, politely, we were told that we could bring formula and water on the flight for our than 6 month old baby.

This was the first in many mistakes I made, questioning the fascist gestapo dictator wannabes, is apperently not an option. I was told to stand ove in the corner with the baby, i tried to grab my brand new digital SLR and video camera but it was snatched from me and they said they needed to now inspect it further. So I did what any non terrorist would do, I complied fully with them. As I walked to the corner with an TSA employee, they asked me questions of where I was going and how long I would be there and what I was gonna do. I answered there qusetions again as any non terrorist would, calmy slowly and as straight forward as possible.

After 15 minutes of questions, my wife now starting to panic because she doesnt know what thye are doing asks the guards what are you doing with my husband they say ma’am it would be easier if you just help us help you.

Needless to say after about 40 minutes of questioning phone calls made by the TSA to the TSA 800 number, and being very polite to all concerned I was told that I coul

I wouldnt be so worried about what was going IN to the baby, I’d be far more worried about what will come OUT of the baby, especially on a 10 hours flight, and they only allow a couple of diapers per passenger.

“Tower this is Flight 400 requesting emergency landing”

“Flight 400 what is the nature of your emergency?”

" Ahhh…passenger with sick baby ran out of diapers 5 hours ago…we cant breath…"
