Oh heck!

…In most cases, they don’t need any help.

Just carrying 'em

a little [#offtopic] but if you like glassworks don’t miss Fenton Art Glass in Williamsburg, WV, which is just over an Ohio river bridge from Marietta, OH.

Don’t think any principal train lines go thru, but it is very close to I-77. And the Fenton people give tours that also get up close and personal. - a.s.

Not moving it back to topic, unfortunately, but does anyone know whether the Westmoreland Glass plant is still existing and open in Jeanette (east of Pittburgh)? That was part of a family trip in the mid-1960s. I’m not sure whether it was a retail outlet, factory, or warehouse outlet, as I didn’t go in with the rest of the family. No “Oh, Heck!” about that, though–I stayed in and around the car, because the PRR main line went behind and below the place–I was plenty busy, and not bored in the slightest. Might have been frustrated, though, had I been able to hear the trains from inside the place and not do anything about it.

[censored] Deal with it!

Last week I was watching trains at the station in Burlington, IA and just saw three trains. Satisfied, I packed up my video gear and started to walk down towards the station and back around off the platforms (the station has these fences around the platform, so you have to walk all the way down to the station doors to get around to the other side). Well, of course, guess what I heard? A train whistle. I stopped, walked back up the platform a ways, and listened again. Nothing else. I was beginning to think it was just my imagination, so I turned around. I had just got around and off the platforms, when I heard the definate train whistle again. I had to run all the way around the platform fence and all the way back to the north end of the platform, and I somehow got my video camera and tripod set back up in record time, just before the coal train pulled in. What a close shave !

Another rule to think about: your ears NEVER lie to you. If you thought you heard a train, you probably did! [:D] I’d never heard about the 10 minute rule until this thread. Something I’ll have to think about the next time I’m out train watching.
