Oh Where OH Where did they go

Has anyone seen the last true CNW units the 8646 or the 8701? Seems they have been scarce to say the least Last I heard they were in or around Proviso working north to Milwaukee and points north Just wondering Larry

If I were at work I could check on them for you, Larry. But they graciously gave me today off.

I’m pretty sure these two units work intermodal east from Global 3 (Rochelle) to Global 2 or points inside Chicago (Global 1, CSX 59th Street, NS Ashland Avenue).

Was it you who mentioned the big layoffs in Boone recently? Haven’t seen that at the yard here; don’t know about the road.

Last I heard 8646 and 8701 were typically found on ABEBE.

That was a while ago, Dan–ABEBE now usually gets UP 2001 and 2002, the Salt Lake Olympics units.

Thanks for the correction Carl. That spares me a trip to Belvedere tomorrow (seriously I was planning on going) and possibly a wasted trip. I still haven’t seen 8701 yet.

Catl yes it was me that mentioned the layooffsd in Boone I was at Council Bluffs on Thanksgiving trying to yard MPRCB 26 and was talking to one of MYOs and he was telling me its only going to get worsr Larry

The 8646 and 8701 have been holding down Global 3 shuttle trains- they aren’t on the same shuttle every day and have been running seperately as of late, but it’s a good bet that if you go down to Rochelle (or anywhere eastward from there) it’s a good bet you’ll see them. I got to see the 8646 twice this summer at Rochelle running on the IG3G2 shuttle- the 1995 has been working these trains recently too.

As of today…

The two CNW Dash 9s are together again, at Proviso (I saw 'em!); they’ll be in Rochelle tomorrow.

The two Olympic SD70Ms are in Belvidere, awaiting the next ABEBE turn.

And UP 1995 is in Rochelle, not yet assigned to anything eastbound.
