Ohio city pushing for Amtrak stop

This should have been done years ago.

Long overdue!! Just another5 yrs till the ribbon cutting ceremony, thats all.

Well, now that one of their alumni is Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, maybe the purse strings will be opened…

This doesn’t require more funding, except possibly for a station.

Makes sense–college students are great train riders.

It all sounds awesome, at least until you look at the Cardinal’s timetable. If the train is running on time, heading west it departs Cincinnati at 1:23 a.m. and maybe it would arrive at the proposed Oxford station within a half-hour after that. That’s not too early or late for most collegians but other passengers might not care for it. It gets worse heading east with all those potential Chicagoland students aboard, due to arrive in Cincinnati at 3:27 a.m. Subtract from that whatever brief time lapses from Oxford to Cincy. It’s still rather early for an 8 o’clock class. Face it: overnight runs to desolate or rural places will never be as popular as they would be if their arrivals and departures were in the sunlight. Nevertheless this may generate some traffic Amtrak would find beneficial.

If it’s an asset for Oxford and the University, perhaps they should pay for it instead of the rest of us taxpayers.

Mean while, back in Illinois, the governor wants to cut funding to Amtrak.
