Oklahoma short line reopens bridge washed out 20 years ago

The old KO&G rail bridge was just a few miles east of that shortline’s bridge. Wonder why they couldn’t have used that bridge instead?

The former Rock Island bridge that the A-OK repaired is no where near any former KO&G bridge. If you are thinking of the former OC&AA which passed through Shawnee then it’s bridge has been gone for many years. Also, the KO&G route south of Muskogee was abandoned by the UP after it bought the MKT.

Rebuilding The Rock!

Doing what railroads do best; recycling the old to make the new.

Does anyone know how much of the old Rock Island to Mc Allister is to be rehabbed?

That was my old sales territory for the “Family Lines System”
Sad to see the Rock bite the dust , but great to see this GREAT segment rebuilt.

Ron Lewis, from what I’ve heard, the entire line from Shawnee to Big Mac is supposed to be rebuilt so the A-OK can connect both ends of their lines and give customers outlets for shipping from OKC or Big Mac.

Glen is thinking of the KO&G bridge at Calvin, OK. 60 miles East of the bridge which just opened. It is about a mile from the A-OK bridge there and both are still standing.

Its nice to see the OLD rock coming back to life. Maybe UP will reaquire the line to connect mcallister with el reno the way it use to be when i was a kid in okc. Its a dream i know but you never know. Long live the rock.
