Old Champ decals

Hi all, I have some old (like about 20 years or so) Champ decals mainly for number boards wcih I would like to use for some updates I have done. Trouble is the first few I did seemed to dissolve in water! Is there a way of retrieving decals such as painting them with a solution first? I thought I had read about this some time ago.

Alternatively, I thought about using a laser printer and printing number boards on A4 paper and gluing them on in F7 number boards in particular. Has anyone reading this actually done it?

I print my own decals, including number boards, on Air Mail paper. I then cut them to size and apply them to the models using a little white glue and a pair of tweezers.

Microscale makes Liquid Decal Film - 460-117 for just such purposes.

Hi Jeff, Do you print heralds as well for say boxcars using that method? I had not thought of airmail paper etc but it is extremely logical and for number boards ideal… thanks for that!

I followed your links on the page but came up with a forum… Is that what was intended?

HI Jso, That stuff is getting harder to get here in Australia! There is a local similar stuff but I am probably not very good with my decalling anyway!

Cheers

I print heralds, roadnames, number boards, etc. I print 98% of the decal stock I use. Very rarely do I purchase a pre-printed decal. And yes, the link does go to a forum. There’s a lot of helpful advice there.

I remeber reading somewhere that you can spray them with Tester’s Gloss coat It sounds like it might work but I have never tryed it…Cox 47

If you have a photo quality printer, you may want to consider using Permium Glossy Photo Paper. You will get a lot sharper detail than with printer paper, but it will be thicker. The back can be sanded down to reduce the thickness.
