…we saw this from the highway. Hasty shot from inside the car.
Then, on the way back, we saw this:
No idea what a UP Challenger was doing on that railroad in Alaska. Oh, well…

Wonders from the land of Lilliputia.
Dispatcher must not be too bright![;)]
Offhand, I’d say he was hauling freight, but on the way for an excursion.

My prototype is “Colorado Western” in 1974. In the 1960’s they built a standard guage tourist track from Louisville, Colorado, across Rocky Flats, up Clear Creek Canyon and on up to Georgetown and eventually all the way to Kremmling. Now this tourist train actually services active gold and silver mines that have reopened as tourist mines that give tours and in some cases actual working mines. These mines are serviced by small steam per agreement with the Colorado Tourist board (hauling real ore and real passengers), but occasionally a modern long freight train pulled by SD24’s comes roaring through as this is an actual railroad that delivers freight to the towns (Idaho Springs and Silver Plume etc) along the way…
That is my version of history for my line, and I am sticking to it…
Just a guess, but do you drive a Delorean?
No, it’s actually a Duesenberg…
OK Crandell, I think you’re scammin us - the excursion pictures you posted a few days ago was really your layout…er, no, these pictures here are a 1:1 excursion…Oh, I don’t know…I can’t tell the difference. But how did you find that little plastic likeness of yourself?
Seriously, you do inspiring work. I look forward to your pictures - no matter what scale.
To be honest, Jim, now you gone and got me mixed up, too. [(-D]
Seriously, I do appreciate your generous encouragement. I have begun to get the bug to get back to finishing the layout. It needs lots more forestation, more details, odds and ends to improve its appearance, plus of course actually breaking out some chalks and paints and making my rolling items look natural. I think Aggro would be much happier if I were to at least spray my engines with Dull Coat. [:I]
All in good time, but it has been 9 months since I did any development of the layout. Now that the wind and rains have started in earnest, and I am driven indoors for the season, there are few excuses from day to day.
Regards, and thanks to all for having a peek and playing along. I was playing with different camera angles and positions last night and thought the WP&Y image looked interesting as if it had been shot from a passing vehicle with the raised roadbed in the foreground. The hillside beyond, though, is why I need to make some trees. For the Challenger, it was somewhat more yellow in hue due to the lighting, so I used the Microsoft Office Picture Manager software to lighten it up and soften it a bit…or did I harden the contrast…can’t remember.
