What’s on her bell mount? Some sort of electronic bell?

That’s the “E-bell” referred to in prior posts. I think this one is a Graham-White (WABtec) but our Canadians will know exactly.

There seem to be two main kinds of railroad E-bells.

All of CN’s new locomotives (both EMD and GE) ordered after 2004 have come with Graham-White E-bells, and some older units have been retrofitted with them. But a few units have managed to get Transtronic ones instead.

VIA Rail has been using Transtronics on the F40’s for as long as I have been watching trains, and even fitted their last FP9’s with them.

It’s just nice to see the ONR making a real comeback. It was on the ledge and facing extinction not that long ago. The Ontario government had it up for sale and there were no takers. The new CEO has made a big big difference. It is essential to the Northern economy and resource development and connecting communities with rail service that have no roads at all. Much like the Churchill line, the Moosonee line, route of the Polar Bear is the only way by land and all the numerous small Native settlements along its route. Flagstop anywhere along the line, just wave down the Polar Bear at any location. Bring your Canoe and fishing gear!
