To Verizon users who haven’t paid attention to their emails from the big V, they’ve eliminated a bunch of newsgroup domains in favor of what is called the ‘Big 8’. Amongst what got eliminated is the alt hierarchy; this not only had porno, it also had what was a good resource for modelers - alt.binaries.pictures.rail which had pictures of full-size trains. Supposedly this took place on June 24; went to check today and yep, it’s gone. This means those of us that frequented the group will have to pay to subscribe to another usenet provider (Google doesn’t have the alt.binaries groups) or use the group’s archive site

The jerks at Time Warner have killed access to ALL of the newsgroups.

I am so fed up with that company and its overpriced lousy service.

Thanks. The first one has a TON of images, but no date stamp on the thumbnail pages. The second one has a calendar, which helps, but nowheres near what abpr seemed to carry on a daily basis. And the third is just another pointer to what I posted already, which only updates on a monthly basis. Oh well, the search continues for an alternative.

That’s the pits. My only high speed alternative to Verizon dsl is Comcast (we already have their cable tv). If their internet quality is as good (cough, cough) as their cable tv, smoke signals would be preferable. Besides, the more users on a trunk line for cable internet, the more the whole shebang slows down.

Don’t blame them; blame the NY state govt. who basically threatened them and other providers.

Be glad you don’t live in the country where we’re saddled to Dish Network and a 1 meg DSL phone line. Phone company limits us to 120kbps download speed even though the lines will support over 700! Comcasts cable line terminates 2.1 miles from my home. They want $10,000 to run it to my house even though they would probably pick up 25 new customers along the way![banghead]
