I’m looking for info on a specific topic (building a vertical lift bridge). Is there an alternative to searching individually on every single Annual Index for MR?
I’ve been looking for the same thing. Trains.com is an index of magazines and content not a subject index of all MR’s.

I don’t understand your objection. The referenced index includes all Kalmbach publications, not just MR. I’ve used it several times, and have always been able to nail the article I want. If you’re not interested in articles on prototype lift bridges, then ignore the Trains Magazine results. I, for one, am happy that index is NOT restricted to just MR.
So, enlighten me, please, how an on-line index, that allows you to search several publications for the keywords you enter, doesn’t serve as a “subject index” for all MRs. It is that, and more,
And sometimes, bouncing your ideas off someone else helps. My wife, a professor of English by trade, suggests that perhaps you are looking for a PAPER index, such as appears in the magazine from time to time.
If that’s the case, I can now intellectually understand what you’re looking for, but why anyone would want that when there is a much more versatile product available, is stilll beyond me.
You want an index, try this one:
http://the-railroad-index.com/rd_item_control.php
Indexes ALL model railroad publications. Even links the corrections that may have appeared a month or two later than the main article - important on electronic articles for sure. Plus are you absolutely certain the construction article you want was in MR? Maybe it was in RMC, or Railroad Modeler, or somewhere else. This index will find them.

If you use the Advanced Search option, you can specify which magazine to only search through.
Mark.
Thanks, guys. Got it. Now I just have to track the pub(s) down.

Not at all. Just didn’t (still don’t) understand the objection to the one posted. I would gladly learn better, if I am missing something.
