i have a module that i use on my clubs modular layout that has a roadway overpass on it. it sits about 3 5/8ths inches over the rail tops. is this enough clearance for double stack cars to pass under or do i have to raise it some. thanks.
That might be enough for running double stacks under, though I’ve heard that 4" clearance is better (both visually and operationally). best way to tell would be measuring a doublestack from the rails to the top.
Or you could put the throttle in notch eight and hold your breath! More than one train in real life has found out the hard way about clearances not being sufficient. I wouldn’t assume that model railroad clearances are what people say without measuring them and making sure also.
thanks for the reply. i’m figuring that with two containers at 16’ and they ride about a foot above the rail i’ll need a minimum of a little more than 17 ft for clearance. i also figure that 3 5/8" is about 26 scale feet in ho. i don’t have any of those cars yet and i don’t know anyone who does so could someone measure their cars and let me know the height in inches. thanks again.
