P2K Cracked Gear / Walthers part #???

I have a few of the older Proto 2000 GP-7’s and GP-9’s that I have recently found have the dreaded “cracked gear” issue. I have read here that Walthers will no longer mail customers free replacements and is forcing people to purchase the replacement wheel / gear sets. Although I don’t really like this, what else can I do? Does anyone know the actual Walters part number for these replacement wheel / gear sets though?

I uses Athearn’s part # ATH60024, cost me $1.95 for 6 gears from my LHS.

I have changed mine with both the Athern as well as the NWSL gears, then tried an experiment, took one apart and dabbed CA on the crack and re assembled that was a year ago and that engine runs as well as the others I have changed the gears in, so have been doing that with the others with the same result, they give me no problems.

Now that is very interesting. Has anyone else tried this and has it been successful?
