P2K E6 with QSI....WHAT WAS I THINKING???

I just bought a new P2K E6 A/B set with sound. WHAT WAS I THINKING??? I have for years tried to buy the smoothest, quietest motive power to run on my layout. And now THIS! It squeals, clatters, hisses and toots so loud I can’t hear any of my other trains running! [:0][:D][;)]

Seriously, I’m pretty impressed with the loco! It’s my first venture into sound, and I kinda like it! The loco runs great, and the effects are pretty cool running on DC, even better on DCC!

What do y’all think of them?

Rotor,

Congratulations! I’ll actually be venturing into the sound world for the first time myself in a couple of months. Sometime in September or October, I should be receiving my special order Stewart EMD FT A-B diesel. I’m looking forward to it. [:)]

What do i think of them,[bow][tup][bow]
the best bit is you can set all the sounds to the volume that suits you, have a play around and you will see, just flick the direction switch back and to 3 times upon turning on the power and the loco will talk to you and run through the program options, great fun

I think I am an addict to sound. I have one Atlas gold series with sound and several BLI engines, and it’s kind of hard going back to something without sound. I guess it’s like going back to DC when you have already gotten familiar with DCC.

It is nice to hit the F8 button now and then and just listen to the clickty clack!!

Ken.

I’m DC & enjoy the Athearn Challenger with the remote & the BLI-GG1 with the kicker.

Should there be another fire sale this summer I will entertain a P2K diesel and then,
that’s it.

I also have a P2K sound E6A - the paint job is great, the detail very good (not Atlas Master quality, but few plastic models are at THAT level), they used the correct paint scheme for the ROCK ISLAND, as opposed to BLI that used the wrong color scheme on their RI E7s, and the sound and lights are a great effect !!!

Plus they are cheaper than the BLI E’s.

What’s not to like ???

It’s my second favoite loco, just after my Atlas Master RI GP40 !!!

Don’t own any yet, but I absolutely enjoy sound! (As long it’s not turned up too loud).

The best quality sounds I’ve heard so far are locomotives equipped with QSI sound and Soundtraxx DSX systems.

Can’t wait to see the new Digitraxx, LokSound, and Soundtraxx Tsunami goodies!!

10-4!

I’m with Ken. I’m finding myself hitting f8 (mute) more and more… for the good ol’ rail noise. Sometimes sound is just too relentless.

I had a similar experience when I got my first BLI Class A. ‘Wow’ describes it perfectly.

I’ve got a Proto GP9 with sound and just love the thing. Its one of my favorite Loco’s. I’m really seriously thinking about adding a few more sound equiped ones to my roster.

I reserved a Proto 2000 E8 set in UP with all the bells and whistles. Can’t wait for it to show around Christmas time. Hopefully!

Well mine are in the shops already. They needed couplers that will actually couple to something… I was also disapointed to find out that in a set only one is powered and sounded (unlike the BLIs). I could do without the power but seems a bit lacking to have a second unit silent while the other isn’t. On the up side if they only produce two more numbers in Santa Fe I’ll have a models of the whole prototypical fleet.

I’m guessing you have a Mazda Rx-7 or 8 or that you just love Dr. Felix Wankel (Spelling). Cool engine but awfully fuel hungry.

As for the sound I can’t wait till I can afford some.

Jesse

Yeah…I’m kind of a Rotary engine nut! Right now, I have 4 Mazda RX-3’s 1 RX-4, 2 Rotary Pickup trucks, 2 RX-7s, an R-100, and a Wankel engined lawnmower! [:D]

And I’ve really thinned out my collection over the last few years!

Rotor

When I run an engine that has no sound, it seems like it is broken. Something is wrong.
The only non sound units I am buying are cheap things off of ebay, etc that I just use as scenery in my engine yard or on a siding.

Of course, for all intents and purposes, I’m a newbie. I’m starting out with DCC and sound.
