You may have to cement a polystyrene rod in there then drill and tap it. I am guessing that a screw that will fit in the hole in the underframe will not fit through the truck. I know of no product to make this simpler, not that it should be very difficult.
Also, I am guessing that the couplers were truck mounted. If so, you will need to buy a couple of coupler boxes.
I have done over 100 Bachmann, LL, Tyco, and all the cheap brands once you get used to it its not to bad kinda fun. I have 38 to change over. I change about 5 to 10 a month. Use good quality trucks and a metal screw. Also use a metal screw for the coupler box. It wil pay off in a derailment or a very ard coupeling after the plastic screw geta older. I bought a bag of 500 2-56 philips screws on ebay for $5.00 with shipping. I use Kadee 513 trucks. They are nice because they add weight as well as look nicer. Good luck. Joe A.
for pacific fruit express cars the 50 ton bettendorff trucks should be used…i’d use the metal ones like the ones from atlas or intermountain…you’ll need to use screws…2-56 screws will work…you’ll need 3/8" styrene tubing, and 1/4" styrene tubing, a kadee 2-56 screw drill and tap, a razor saw, CA glue, screwdriver and a piece of sandpaper or small file…I have some pictures posted on my album site that will take you thru the mounting of the trucks and kadee couplers… it’s here at : http://community.webshots.com/photo/137793353/300555227CpifsB …click the "next " button and it will take you thru the pictures with explanations of what i’m doing in the lower right of the picture…hope this helps…chuck
