Pages loading very slowly

Doesn’t seem like it has been…

That may be their explanation…but I’ll have to call BS to that. There is no way, 100-200 posters (and I have yet to see the ‘Who is online’ counter over 100) should be able to cause any server hosting a forum to bog down to the extent we see. I’d venture that the server being used for the forum also serves to support other valid business uses for Kalmbach…improperly programed business applications have the power to grind any computer to a halt…using the wrong database call can hog all the computational power of even a Main Frame computer if it is working against a large database (been there, done that in my prior career).

The slow down we see on the forum is being caused by applications on that server that have nothing to do with the forum. I suggest Kalmbach look to the other applications they are running on the server during the evening hours, which they view as ‘off time’ since their business office force is not working at the time.

I called customer service and they said they are working on the problem, which I was told is being caused by high forum traffic at night. I was told that they do not know when it will be fixed.

When something like this happens, it has a two-stage effect. The first stage is that foru

Things seem to up and running well this afternoon…at least better than I’ve had for the last couple of days.

Not too bad even this late at night (63 online). I’ll check back in an hour or so.

…Wow…! Just clicked on the forum, and like lightning, it was up and ready…Hope that was not just a one timer…If it’s fixed, congrats to the people responsible.

9:30 PM Eastern and I can actually call up threads

10:30 EDT and things are positively flying - 67 folks on-line.

Hopefully they found something and will let us know what it was…

…Just tried it again…and it’s still lightning fast compared to what it was.

9:15PM PDT, 34 users and the forum is snappy.

Besides server loading, another possibility is congestion on the servers internet connection - I’d guess that the server sits in some data center as opposed to Kalmbach’s office building and that data center may be facing congestion issues.

Maybe the servers derailed.

15 users online @ 0529. Lightning fast page loading!

Maybe we are looking at this problem from the wrong end. Although I am no geek could it be that uploads from each of our computers are being limited to 1 at a time? I have noticed that there is never a post that has the same time stamp as another? Probably am wrong but last speed test when uploading was only .23 mbps?

Showing twenty-one on-line and response is SLOW!

for that number of users at this time of the AM> [2c]

…Don’t know if it is back up to correct speed or not, but seems to be doing very much better than many of us have been experiencing in the past several weeks.

Last 1/2 hour or so, intermittently very slow - 2 -3 mins. to load anything, about 72 on-line. - PDN.

Never had a problem until today. Then, getting on at my usual time – always between 5 and 5:30 p.m. CT – found both Newswire & the Trainsmag forums glacially slow.

730 PM and response is glacial…measured in minutes not seconds

Same here. It just took 4 minutes to load this reply page.

I just speed tested my internet connection and got a little over 14 meg, so it is definately at Trains end.

…An hour plus ago, I tried to do a post on here and it was so slow I gave up. Now, it came up in a “reasonable time”, not fast, just reasonable.

No wonder there is minimum activity of late on here…I thought the powers to be had it restored, but seems not to be true this evening.

9:48PM PDT, 62 reported on-line, pages taking more than a half hour to load with many connection resets - my original reply was “re-setted” at least 5 times.
