A good soak in 90% alcohol could help immensely. You can get it at Wal-Mart, Walgreen’s, etc.

YOur title says “PAIN removal”

For Pain removal I take a couple of Excedrin Extra strength.

I think you meant “PAINT removal”

For that I agree with Jeffrey, try 91% alcohol available any pharmacy department. Be NOT to get the regular 70% as it doesn’t work.

Ummmmm, I didn’t think that soaking in alcohol could help remove pain. But I’m willing to try anything once.

soaking in alcohol definately removes pain

Hmmmmmmmmmm, my neighbor the “pet killer”, is a “pain” and he has been soaking in 90% alcohol for years and it hasn’t removed him! :-]

I was asking about this several years ago when I first joined this site and was informed about a “purple bottle” of liquid cleaner that I could soak a styrene loco shell in at full strength without harm to the plastic. The brand I found- at an Ace Hardware Store- is “Super Clean”- in a purple spray bottle. The mfr is Super Clean Holdings/ St. Paul, MN.

I use this- poured, not sprayed- full strength WITH protective gloves (nitrile-type). I pour enough into a plastic (not metal) container (the Glad storage ones will work) to cover a loco shell laid sideways. I let it sit for a day, then use a stiff toothbrush to scrub the corners and detail molding areas as well as the flat surfaces. At this point- 24-36 hrs- the old paint is significantly softened and fairly easy to remove. I then turn the shell over, repeat the process and when finished, I rinse the shell with dish soap and water (again, with gloves on!), letting it air dry on a paper towel.

I have done this several times for old shells I have picked up at a local RR flea market- and it works quite well.

There may be similar products in larger quantities at Wal-Mart, as I think I saw a gallon container there of a different named product (automotive section)- or at an auto parts store.

On the other hand, if it’s “pain removal” you are seeking, then ship the mother-in-law back to where she came from (and take a strong aspirin)… guarantee you will feel better the next day- works every time!
