Got yet another one for my Forum friends. Does anybody have a good paint match for Arizona Rock & Mineral pit run gravel? I am using it for “ballast” to represent ex-Milwaukee track as part of my protolanced layout. I am currently painting the remote switch machines on my layout to “hide” them in the scenery. A paint match for the color of the ballast is the only one I haven’t found as of yet. I would take a picture but my phone has a bad habit of distorting the colors on my layout. Any ideas or suggestions would be very much welcomed.

Why not mask off the operating parts with frisket, apply thinned white glue, and coat with the ballast itself?
Covering with some ballast is a good idea - I’ve done it before. Painting them first will make it easier.
Here’s what I would do: take a picture of the ballast with your cell phone and go to a good craft store. Find the acrylic paint rack, the craft paint ones, and match a color with the color taken on your phone. Doesn’t need to be perfect. It’s easy to darken a color by adding a small amount of black.

Or a black India ink wash
Or you can cover the switch machine with ground foam and weeds.
Or many/all of the above suggestions?
