Have repainted tender shell that I wish to remove paint. Any ideas?
You can try soaking it in 91% isopropyl alcohol. Depending on the type of paint used it could come off quickly or require many hours of soaking. Some I’ve stripped took two days or longer but many take only one to three hours.
J-W is correct. 90+% alcohol can work miracles, in particular on acrylic paints such as Poly S, Model Flex and others. ELO also works and can be found at Micro Mark and LHS.
Ditto with the 91 % alchohol. However, I got a line on a product called Easy Lift Off by Scalecoat. Haven’t used it but read on a different forum that it works.
Easy Lift Off (ELO) is maketed by Polyscale not Scalecoat. Scalecoat also has paint removers (one for plastic and one for metal) whose name I can’t remember at the moment. Both work very well on virtually all paints.
And just to confuse matters more, since that Pollyscale acquisition by Testors Corp, it’s actually now marketed by Testors.
But whoever’s name is on the label, it works very well. Just follow the directions carefully as over-exposure to the stuff can damage whatever you’re trying to strip.
If something is VERY recently painted (2 weeks or less) with acrylic paints, old fashioned Windex or its equivalent (the kind that contains ammonia) will work, too, and it’s less caustic.
