I am getting ready to paint a blue and yellow Santa Fe GP-40 for a friend. Looking for suggestions on how to lay out the curves behind the cab where the blue and yellow meet. Has anyone done this?
I’m not up to speed on the forum rules against promoting youtube channels. If you did a youtube search of HO Scale SD40-2 Model Building, you could find a multipart series that includes painting the model
I’m assuming HO scale. If you use Micro Scale decals make a copy of the drawing with that set. Cut it out and then place it on some tape and use as a template. Cut out the tape to match and then apply over your yellow. Paint the blue and pull the tape off.

You might need to apply one color first, let it dry then apply the other color, be careful!
Some sanding and a stencil would help you out.
The only advice I can offer is that when I paint two color paint schemes I use a product called “Frog Tape” for the mask between the two colors. For me, this has always produced the best and sharpest seperation.

Thanks guys! I have painted several locomotives that have pretty basic square lines between colors but this will be a first with actually “painting” curved paint schemes. Will definitely consider the Microcsale drawing as a template since I will be using those decals. I post a picture when completed
