I have a silver Atlas tank car (Conoco) for use with the Walthers Interstate Fuel and Oil kit that I am building. I have a few paints by Polly Scale and am trying to figure out how best to weather such a car. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tone down the silver and effectively weather it for oil use? Any other recommendations or photos of past modeling work or prototype would be appreciated. I’m not even sure if silver is a prototypical paint scheme for a tank car. Any advice would be appreciated.
Of course, there are silver tank cars. My question would be, are there silver CONOCO tank cars? Are you detailing your bulk oil dealer structure as a Conoco dealer?
My 1954 Official Railway Equipment Register shows Conoco owned 709 cars.
I used a photo of an HO commercial model from Athearn to paint and letter my own N scale tankcar for Conoco—
