Painting Building Question

I am building the ‘Town and Factory’ building set for the Woodland Scenics ‘Scenic Ridge’ layout. I have built the buildings and have air-brush painted the brick portion of the buildings and the roofs with acrylic paints. Now it is time to paint the details (trim, windows, doors, etc.). I have several questions.

  1. Since the building faces are not completely flat and have details embossed in the sides, how to I mask the building to paint the details?

  2. Is there a special type of masking tape to use?

  3. My plans are to spray the larger details and hand-paint the others (window frames, etc.). Is this the best approach?

I don’t want to make a mess of the buildings. The details are quite tiny (n-scale).

Thank You…

Earl

Being in N scale, I’d brush paint all the details, get inexpensive acrylics from craft store and some very small brushes , OO , or the like, then take your time and paint. You could use the blue masking tape for painter, or magic masker, a coating you apply with a brush and let dry, then paint, when paint is dry peel off masker, but in n scale i’d brush paint. mike h

I agree. Use magnification (especially with N scale), an Optivisor or the reading glasses you can get at the drugstore,
