offer any tips or direct me to a website that has the basics for painting locos?
Specifically, I have an Bachmann On30 0-4-0 Porter to which I would like to add red trim around the window and door frames, like some of the factory painted models have. I can’t imagine doing this by hand. Is there a very fine masking tape or something I could use?
Obviously I’m a novice at this. All suggestions would be very welcome.
For the best tape to use for paitning and masking is 3M blue masking tape. Sticks well, and remeoves easliy.
Should be able to find it in any home improvement store.
tiny tiny sable brushes work for me. A nice small pointed one – try at the art supply house. Use the physicality of the item to help you paint it. ie let the paint run up to the edge, but not over it. You will probably want to practice a little on this first. Some of the nice old buildings from DPM makle excellent practice – killing two birds with one stone as you get a cool building too.

3M Fineline automotive masking is the best you will find. If using drafting or painter’s tape, make a fresh cut w/ razor on glass for best results. Even brand new tape rolls will not have that perfect an edge and the (sticky)side of the roll will always pickup some dust/dirt
