I was thinking of painting the ore car load that comes with Model Power U-29 Steel Ore Cars to make it look like gravel to use for quarry on my layout , what to you all think ?
If the loads are removable, it’s just a matter of removing them, then spray painting an earth color, or mix your own color then spray with an airbrush. If they’re not removable, then it involves masking the car and doing the same steps listed above.
The texture of ore varies a lot. I haven’t seen the MP ore car loads, but if the size of the “ore” pieces depicted isn’t grossly large, then a simple coat of paint will make them believable as gravel.
There were a few railroads that did use old ore cars for ballast and other rock movements, but not real common.
If any on is Interested what I did I bought some Athearn ore cars with loads and click on the link to look what they look like after I painted the loadshttp://www.flickr.com/photos/icr140/7917855532/ I don’t know why it would not let me post the photo just the link
