Painting Question

I picked up a couple of Walthers 25’ caboose kits but am having trouble painting the Hand Grabs.

Using Floquil paints it just lays on those tiny wires like tiny balls of paint I work them over with the brush to smooth them out and the paint does not cover very well.

Any fast way to paint these things?

Thanks

I’ve had pretty good luck using plastic adhesion promoter paint. It’s a spray clear coat made by Duplicolor and sold at auto part stores. It’s a clear coat you spray on the railings and then paint them with the color of your choice. Kind of like a plastic primer that sticks better.

I use Humbrol for my grabs. A thicker paint perfect for little parts.

I’ve had similar problems that were resolved by spraying a light coat of Testor’s Dullcote and then painting the grab irons. This seems to work with either solvent base paint or Polly S water base paint.

Good Luck,

Wayne

It sounds like there’s a fine oil coating on the wire, probably from the drawing process through the die. Try washing the model first.
