I just bought an Athearn 70 foot heavyweight diner kit, but no one makes an interior kit for it. can i use one of Palce Car Company’s Athearn 72 foot sreamlined diner car kits and place it in my heavyweight diner, once i remove two feet from the 72 foot diner floor?
It might, both are actually 72’ long I believe. However the Palace Car Co. interior kits have floor / weights that only fit that particular car’s interior (like has openings where the trucks screw in, etc.)…so it might fit, it might not. I guess you could drill or widen an existing hole to make it fit.
They also do have a “generic” Universal Dining Car Kit that comes without a floor that you could use, perhaps making your own floor out of styrene. I did that on some MDC cars before specific kits were offered for them and it turned out OK.
I guess it would cost the same either way, if the interior floor will fit both cars it would be nice, as it adds some weight to the car.
