Thought about asking this of the show’s recent attendees. For a container yard scene this idea of printed paper/cardstock containers would certainly be appealing in leu of the full-on plastic containers?

How far in the background?
One idea I read about and tried (to so-so results) was to scan and then print images of existing model containers you already own, cut out the scanned sides/roofs and assemble (either with a wood/foam block core, ore without), and then bury the paper containers in with the model containers. I think it can be made to work if you have a good color printer with good ink (my printer was so-so, hence so-so results).
Also common was to just assemble portions of containers, using the kit’s molded sides which would be visible and just painted styrene or card for the hard to see sides.
I agree, for backround interest, maybe a few just in front of a backdrop of a container yard.
Lacking that 3rd dimension will show up if they are near the front.
Just my thoughts. There some pretty convincing paper modesl out there.

I’m not a fan of paper containers (as far as on trains), but for background objects in container yards or port scenes, I think they’re absolutely perfect. DigCom designs (https://www.digcomdesigns.net/) makes the best paper containers, in multiple scales.
There is a site that will allow yo to print foldable paper containers on cardstock can think of the name right now.
For background, I take my existing containers and put them on the glass of my printer copier and make copies varying the containers between copies.

Fortunately I had purchased a whole bunch of different containers back when they were more affordable…whatever that means…LOL

One of my train buddies suggested I take a container and slice it in half, attach it to the backdrop and use them for depth, then stack them and build them out. Not a bad idea. Going to try it this spring, after a few other projects in front of it…
