Congeress you are responsible,when people have no mobility.Just go out and let the trucks get bigger and let the roads get worse, and let the American people pick up the tab. I guess that the republicans don’t read history books. If they had, they would have known that the railroads were privatly owned & operated. The owners left the railroads because they weren’t getting the profits that they wanted. This is part of the reasons why Amtrak was created. If Amtrak is taken apart, there is no guarantee that the railroads who own the right of way would let the new operators run their trains. Full disclosure: I’m a member of NARP.
Congress hasn’t got the guts to cut funding high-dollar projects. It doesn’t make sense to build more new highways when the existing infrastructure is deteriorating. Congress needs to gut funding for the extensions of I-49, I-66, and I-69.Also, we need to axe funding for the Panama Canal expansion. Let China pay for it since they will be the ones to benefit and redirect the Panam Canal funds to amreican jobs to improve Amtrak and mass transit.
