i am working on modeling a 17 car consist of the american orient express during my research on these 17 car i am modeling i have found that there are 4 different car builders 1 - pullman 2 - budd 3 - acf 4 - slc i may be an idiot but who was slc and where can i get the slc model cars at? thanks david
here are the four cars i need AOE: Bar Harbor - previous road number: ex coach AMTK 4624, exx AMTK 4579, nee UP 5539 AOE: Charleston - previous road number: ex coach AMTK 4606, exx AMTK 4557, nee UP 5494 AOE: Denver - previous road number: ex coach AMTK 4619, exx AMTK 4555, nee UP 5490 AOE: Savannah - previous road number: ex coach AMTK 4607, exx AMTK 4560, nee UP 5500 i have been looking at both amtrak and up rosters and fallen flag rosters and still am not having any luck
The diagrams of these cars appear on pages 441 and 447 of “The Union Pacific Steamliners” by Kratville and Ranks, published by Kratville. The UP numbers were 5488 to 5507 and 5528 to 5542 and the cars look the same on the two diagrams.
I would suggest the Rivarossi UP coaches in their most recent UP car packs as being the best to represent these cars. These cars had individual windows for each row of seats and strapping above and below the windows, both features on the newer Rivarossi cars. The older IHC/ Rivarossi cars with double length windows would not be suitable.
These cars are still available from Walthers in Amtrak colours and are shown as being from “New Tooling” to distinguish them from the cars with larger windows. The Walthers own cars are not suitable, these being 64 seat cars with double length windows.
The Rivarossi/Hornby UP coaches are ACF cars from the 5450-5488 series of cars. The UP 5500 class cars are ST Louis CC cars and have a different window arrangement than the Rivarossi cars.
I think you are confusing the Pullman Standard cars, which do have a different window arrrangement from ACF cars, with the St Louis cars, which have the same window arrangement as the ACF cars.
so i might can use a acf car to model to consist? this information is good but the one question that i have is… i need to know if these cars are 10/6 … 4/4/2…this is the info i am have a hard time trying to find… i do have photos of these cars and have compared them in the walthers catalog but still no luck
