Peco turnouts

OK, I have modified all of my turnouts. Now I have I a question. Is the lead wire at the frog to be routed to The Hex Frog Juicer? Why is there only 1 wire? I am used to seeing 2 wires in electrical wiring. I take it this keeps the frog hot although it is segregated from track wiring. Also, do I use insulated joiners as per Pecos instructions, or has the rewiring taken away the need? Thanks for your help.

You have two tracks the can be identified as A nd B (or North and South or else). If you look closely at your turnout, you’ll see that the moving rails alternately become rail A or rail B depending on the direction the turnout is thrown and the frog has to match the polarity of the moving rails. The missing wire you’re talking about is the outside rail that is then used (either A or B).

Normally, with Peco turnouts and clean trackwork, the moving rails take care of the frog’s polarity so no Frog Juicer or other devices are necessary.I’ve installed quite a few Peco turnouts (N scale) so far and have never powered a single frog yet and no problem has arised yet either.

And yes,you still need the insulated joiners at both legs of the frog as per Peco’s instructions.

The wire attached to the frog goes to the frog juicer, so yes. The frog juicer should also have two wires or connections that get attached to the left and right rails.

There is only one wire to the frog because the frog is only one piece of metal, and it’s electrical polarity changes as necessary.

The frog and any other rails that it is electrically connected to need to be insulated. Use insulated joiners if necessary to keep the frog and connected rails isolated from other rails.

Hi Mo,

I don’t use Juicers, I wire Code 55 Peco frogs because there is so little contact between the running rail and point blade so I back feed fro the frog to the blade to stop arcing.

I feed from the running rail fishplates through a PL13( I think) motor switch then a single wireto the frog to feed back, even on Code75, 100 has them tabs to slide under the blades. Trying 83 on next layout.

I still use Insul-fishplates were frogs are facing IE< > like a loop or crossover. Hope this helps.

Be in touch.

pick.

Thanks. I haven’t wired them yet, but I will refer back to all of the replies on this question. Thanks to each and every one of you for your help.
