Which proves once again the reality of highway use taxes being raised and then diverted from the highways to support Amtrak, bicycles, and recreation trails while those modes contribute nothing. The definition of socialist welfare transportation.
Now, if there could just be some improvements made to service between Harrisburgh and Pittsburgh.
What are you bitching about Goosie? The lions share, as always, goes to roads and highways. Also, just because you don’t like Amtrak, that doesn’t mean every does or should hate it as well. You are but a minority in this discussion and a very loud one at that.
Actually, if you run the numbers Amtrak gets a higher share per capital of transportation funds than roads do. Its an extremely wasteful way of transporting >01% of all intercity passengers.
I dont hate Amtrak, I just think it should be completely privately operated. Nobody should have money taken from them to prop up an efficient mode of transit that nobody rides, relatively speaking.

Goosie, how dare you call our esteemed governor Mr. Tom Corbett Esq.a socialist! Shame on you!!
Where do you get your information, Matthew? Any pinhead can crunch numbers in order to make their point. You say nobody rides trains? explain why Amtrak’s ridership gained 55% in the two or three years!
Amtrak & SEPTA are great, but are receiving a disproportionate share of resources here. Riding either isn’t practical for the overwhelming majority of us in PA who will pay the additional taxes, yet still have to deal with crumbling roads and bridges. If the governor was not up for re-election this bill would not have passed.
If Public Transportation connected rail to park and ride in the suburbs, public transportation there would not be the common perception that it’s just for the poor anymore and those voters would support it too.

What else can you expect from the Goose, Jesse? Have you ever heard the term, “Loose as a goose?” and you know what come out a loose goose!
Matthew is right. If you look at it on a per person, or even per passenger, basis Amtrak and SEPTA receive far more in subsidies than do the highways and bridges. Yet those who use the highways and bridges have to pay for the Amtrak and SEPTA passengers who pay nothing except a fare that doesn’t cover even the operating costs. Now the Millers can start calling me names but that is what you expect from bottom feeders from the left coast.
Pennsylvania’s transportation department spending is deeply in debt because it has blown its toll road monies on building more new toll roads that very few people are using. That highway department robbed from themselves money that was supposed to be used for repairs of its existing roads and bridges, but nope, curing a country good ol’ boys gas pedal blues was far more important than maintaining the existing infrastructure. Good thing Peter O’ Toole is deceased now, that’s one less advocate for building more corrupt toll roads that will outsource our economy to greedy overseas investors.
