Library of Congress online.

www.loc.gov

then click “American Memory”

Then select Architecture/Landscape… opens 9 collections.

Then select “Built in America: Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record/Historic American Landscapes Survey, 1933-Present”

Morning Sun Books has a few books on the subject. Maybe try a Google search on the subject for more info & sites. Roger Huber

Gidday, Have you tried this site?

Cheers,the Bear.

i’ve been unsuccessful trying to locate an image (and hence web site) using google’s image search. The library of congress site is a good suggestion, but was equally unsuccessful. There’s also the Shorpy site. Had better luck including the word tipple.

i do have one picture, i believe it’s in the horton book. i’m familiar with the Reading historic and modeler sites.

was hoping someone knew of some specific sites.

thanks much

greg

Anthracite (much less common than bituminous) was found in the Scranton, PA area. You might try doing a search along those lines. And there’s a mine tour just down the road from Steamtown in Scranton that I believe is/was an anthracite mine. They should have a web site…or could steer you in the right direction if you e-mail them. Worth a try…

If you do a search on the “williamstown colliery”, it should yield some articles and images for you. Here’s one to get you started:

found two books that look promising

WOW! Looks like you hit the jackpot!

for a small layout, large breakers shown on web sites of earlier posts would require too much space an be overwhelming.

here’s a collection of images that i believe are from Pennsylvania Coal Mine Tipples. While none i’ve seen show tracks, i think that they are a small (intricate) and interesting structure that would fit nicely on a small layout depicting a branch.
