percentage of each scale to hobby

Only 52.92% in HO? I would think there’s far more then that.

Ah well…

Anyway…If the e-Bay figures are close to correct then HO has seen a drop over the past few years. That may explain why we seen a drop in MR subscriptions.

If N Scale is 22.41% that explains a lot of things but,I wonder how that percentage supports two magazines-N Scale and N Scale railroading?

17.42% models in O Scale…Who who have thought that?

I fully agree On30 is tempting.

Think I better go lay down…All of those Micky Mouse questions hurt my head.[(-D]

Max man states a good point that came to mind immediately to me. E-bay represents folks dumping stuff!

Oddly though, I feel the percentages are tolerably close to what might be out there in the way of actual scale popularity.

Few e-bay sellers are jumping the MR ship or abandoning those scales. Many are updating their DCC setups selling off their old system. Others are blowing out old rolling stock and locos that are surplus, trying to obtain cash to buy new stuff. Some are simply dealers selling their wares. A few individuals are selling off their dead dad’s or a dead friend’s estate of trains.

Many opinions…I began this thread as many new vendors inquiring about our Great Scale Model Train Show (Timonium MD) asked this very question. I could only answer with the information I included in my first statement based on 31 years of the show. But then again other shows like Greenberg and Allentown are different as they are quite well endowed with tin plate and Hi Rail (O gauge) and are poor barometers for percentages. Possibily the figures from the National Train Show (NMRA) would be an excellent source. I don’t think ebay is a good source for the reasons stated. I have seen almost nothing in Z, TT, and OO. Then again at my age, I doubt if I could even see Z scale. I have seen growth in N and G scales and…most definitely On30, thanks to Bachmann. When we did shows in Florida, N and G scales were more plentiful for obvious reasons. If I were just beginning in the hobby, I would go to S gauge without a second thought, but then again I have a rather large space to play choo choo with. This could be another thread…selection of gauge and why.

I support both N scale Mag and MRR, and I’m about to foray into Z scale so things might get a bit “small” [(-D] whoops… anywho I was looking at some Z scale SD40-2’s they’re Nice but they don’t have all 6 axles which is understandable. that’s ok though because I was going to start with some BN F units anyhow.
