Photobucket trouble, Is it just me?

I find myself longing for the days when I had windows 97 and dial-up connections. I could upload a picture in as little as 6 minutes![(-D] Now with windows 8.1 and wi-fi… It’s a fair chance as to whether a single photo will upload, but a sure guarentee that multiple, (as in two) will fail. Scrolling is slow, and there are lots of action fails.

My computer is not this slow on any other website, I find it a battle to upload pictures. Is it just me, or are others experiencing the same trouble?

So what I’m getting at is how to address the problem. Are there easier sites to use? Thanks. Dan

First thing I would do is run some diagnostics on your own system. I’m not having any trouble with photobucket. Still lightning fast (of course, I’m using Windows 7).

[(-D] [sigh]

I returned, a new windows 8 computer because I hated the new operating system.

Bought a used office computer with Windows 7. Photo Bucket is a challenge, so I open the picture and just copy and paste. Sometimes the picture will be squashed in width. Not sure of the cause.

I hate it when machines are smarter than me.

With other computers increasing their sales, and Microsoft OS computers sinking faster than the Titanic, Windows 10 is being rushed to market.

I bought a new computer that came with Windows 8.1. After about two weeks, I brought the Windows 7 computer in from the train room and put the 8.1 machine out there.

Well there’s your problem:

Me, I went to Win98 (and then Win98SE), which was a rather good OS until Windows XP came out, fixing the issues with Windows ME; WinXP was a good baseline till Windows 7 came out and became stable, fixing the issues with Windows Vista; Hopefully Microsoft will continue this sequence, and Win 10 (whatever it will be called) will fix the issues with Win 8.1…

Basically, what I’ve discovered as a veteran programmer/analyst, developers are in such a hurry to get product out the door, they leave it up to the end user (us) to debug their mess. That’s why versions x.01, x.02, etc. come out so close together. Just look at the Apple iOS debacle. They’re already up to rev. 02 on their new iPhone OS. NEVER buy version x.00 of anything. As far as your speed issue, is your computer hardwired to your internet modem or are you using a router?

A company I used to work for NEVER upgraded to a new Windows operating system until Service Pack 1 was issued

Running Vista now, never a problem except for running some old games. Liked 98 better as it was eisier to delete things you didn’t want but it did allow you to delete things you needed. Even though you can still do it, it is very hard, thats why the viruses are so rampent, including the newer windows as they disquise themselfs as core files.

Rather than return it, you should have downloaded Classic Shell. It makes Windows 8 look like earlier versions.

There’s also a program called Start8, but it costs $5.

I’ll look into that. Thanks for the replies. I’m not real computer savvy, but I’ll look.

I am still standing firm on the point of MR allowing us to post directly to this forum. Just like the photo gallery on this site. There are many positive points to this that outweigh the standard procedure of linking to another site.

I know this doesnt really help your situation but I am trying to rally those who feel similar to this idea in the hopes that MR will take notice, change the policy, and make it easier for us all to do just exactly what your trying to do…

Share some interesting rail/hobby related information with the rest of the forum through pictures.

If you have a facebook account …just post the pic link from there.

Not having any Photo Bucket issue here. I dumped W98SE many years ago and now using Linux Mint.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with Windows. IE is a big issue also.

Photobucket has gotten really bugg-y and slow with the latest “upgrades.” It was quite fast at one time and the uploader was reliable, but now I prefer flickr as it’s less excruciating.

I have problems with Photobucet all the time now. I run MS Windows7 and have had to use Google at times to get Photo Bucket to work. Very frustrating. May have to go to Picasa or some other photo service. I would love to see MR allow pasting photos directly into forum, it would make life so much simpler.

I run Windows 7 and Internet Explorer. I don’t have any problems with Photobucket at all.

Seems to work fine for me, Windows 7:

Photobucket has been slow for years. It’s slow to upload, slow to show your pictures and overall flakey. Their programming staff used to rework the uploader every few weeks. The reworks always broke it, and I would have to wait a few days for them to fix it. I started using Photobucket to upload pix to this here trains.com website years ago, and I’m still using it, although sometimes I wonder why. To make Photobucket go a little faster I uses Picassa to compress my pix to 600 by 800 pixels before upload, it speeds things up and seems to reduce the crashes.

I just had to master Win 8.1 after old faithful laptop croaked after 10 years of hard service. Running on a new laptop with a vastly faster CPU, 8 Gigs of RAM and 750 Gigs of disc, Win 8.1 is about as fast as Win XP, running on much slower and smaller hardware. In short the Microsofties have canceled out 10 years of hardware improvements with fatter slower code.

My daughter recommended Classic themes to me but I haven’t gone with it, yet. There are some tweaks to improve 8.1 which I have posted to my blog in recent days.

Almost everyone hates 8.1. Microsoft knows it and is rushing Windows 10 into production. I have heard it will be a free upgrade for all the unhappy 8.1 users.
