Cant wait to see those units around here.

Doesn’t NS still buy only 4000 HP locomotives or has this changed?

The info at EMD states that the SD70M-2 is rated at 4300 HP as compared to the 4,000 HP rasting on the SD70M. The GE Dash-9’s that NS has ordered in multitude over the past decade are actually capable of 4400 HP, but NS rates and runs them at the 4,000 hp rating. A report that I read, is that there is a software program that derates them slightly, but that there is a way to access that extra HP if needed via some sort of key.

The GE’s use to have an actual key that some pusher engineer’s were allowed to have, that switched the engine from 4000hp to 4500hp,but do to some engines being left on the 4500hp setting, the keys were all taken up by the roadforeman’s.The switch was located in the back cabinet doors inside the cab.I’m told it can still be used thru the "credit card"slot ,that is a computer download slot located in the same cabinet. That info tells a person who has the access to the right computer ,everthing that engine has done since the last download.Pretty high tech from the old “carts” or tapes that we used to use. They looked like old 8-track tapes and was located under the cab floor.
